Duties and Responsibilities of the Actores Lategum

Overview

A more recent addition to the working branches of the Hospes Lategum, the Artifices were formed with the express goal of building and maintaining our home on the island.

Those whose Lategis point them down a route of creativity, engineering and artistry often go on to join the ranks of Artifice not only to aid the Hospes Lategum and our endeavours, but also as a creative outlet.

Duties

As briefly mentioned, the duty of an Artifex is to create and maintain.

First and foremost an Artifex Lategis will be expected to cooperate with other hosts and take into consideration any and all ideas for improving the island. Sometimes the need may be urgent, others it may not, but forming the home desired by the Hospes as a whole is the ultimate goal of the Artifices Lategum.

An Artifex Lategis is also expected to maintain current systems in place on the island and within the bunker. These can range from managing the locks on our more controlled locations, to resetting of equipment, hanging pictures or even careful expansion of the bunker’s tunnel network.

For those with the requisite skills, it is highly encouraged an Artifex Lategis will help with maintenance and development of both new and existing systems or equipment in order to aid the Hospes.

Development

Up until recently resources available on the island have been slim, save for those that occur naturally in the region. With the addition of the ferry port now on our shores, we are more at liberty to work with a variety of materials that were once out of reach. However, the Hospes has decided it is in our best interests to keep all new developments within the same scheme as that which already existed on the island prior to our arrival.

Further to this, additions to the island must meet a certain level of quality. Inferior parts or materials unable to take the strain of seasonal weather would not last long. Similarly, the Hospes has no need for grand sculptures nor flashy knick-knacks. Creations will be elegant in their design, functional and built to last. The lifespan of a host is long indeed, and ideally we aim to have no need for replacements without good reason.

Where repairs are necessary, appropriate materials should be sourced so as to keep the appearance of any given resource coherent and as clean as possible. Work must also be carried out swiftly so as to avoid any possible accidents or injuries that could occur from broken or faulty equipment as well as locations in our home where structural integrity has failed or shows risk of breaking down.

Code of Ethics

Given the responsibility and trust given to a member of the Artifices Lategum, it is expected they will abide by the following code of ethics, as adapted by the Hospes from the 2007 revision of the NSPE Code of Ethics for Engineers.

1. Hold paramount the safety, health and welfare of the Hospes Lategum and visitors to our home.

2. Perform services only in areas of their competence.

3. Issue statements only in a truthful and objective manner.

4. Act for the Hospes as a faithful agent of the Artifice Lategum.

5. Artifices Lategum shall avoid deceptive acts.

6. An Artifex shall be guided in all their relations by the highest standards of honesty and integrity.

7. Artifices Lategum shall at all times serve the interest of the Hospes Lategum.

8. Artifices Lategum shall avoid all practice or conduct the deceives the Hospes Lategum.

9. An Artifex shall not attempt to injure others, whether maliciously or falsely, directly or indirectly.

10. Conduct themselves honourably, responsibly, ethically and lawfully so as to maintain and enhance the honour, reputation and usefulness of the working branch.
